Advisor memo
Cancun and the Riviera Maya: about USD 5,976 for two, if the holiday room price holds
My recommendation
I would take Cancun and the Riviera Maya as a conditional yes, and I would build it as one base in Playa del Carmen for 13 nights, not a hotel-zone resort. The point estimate is USD 5,976 for the two of you, with a range of USD 3,798 to USD 9,468. At the middle of that range you are about USD 1,024 under your firm USD 7,000 ceiling. At the top of the range you are well over it, so this is not a trip to book on one good number.
Entry is easy on paper: a valid, unexpired US visa means no Mexican visa for an Indian passport holder, according to the Mexican consular page updated 24 July 2026. That depends on both US stamps being valid through January 5, which you have told me they are, and I have not verified it.
The one thing that would flip my view is the room. The USD 1,126 total I read for 13 nights at Rodina in the centre is USD 87 a night, and a Mexico travel guide says Christmas and New Year week hotel prices run 80 to 200 percent above November. If that room is really USD 2,900 or more, this drops from a conditional yes to a weak fit.
Why this trip fits the two of you
Of your stated preferences, this build serves beach and nature best and food and culture second. You get a swimmable Caribbean beach on the doorstep, warm weather in the dry season, and three real day trips: Chichen Itza, Tulum and Cozumel, plus a cenote swim. It also scores well on ease of travel, because the nonstop is about five hours and you never change hotels.
What it trades away is winter scenery, which no Caribbean beach gives you, and food depth. Playa del Carmen eats well, but it is a resort town. If food and museums are the heart of the trip, the Mexico City build I priced earlier at about USD 6,040 is the better answer, and it costs almost the same.
December is the dry season. A climate site puts Cancun at about 27 C by day and 24 C at night, with short heavy showers. A Mexico travel guide warns that two to four cold fronts, called nortes, pass through in December, each lasting two to four days, with greyer skies, choppy seas and nights near 17 to 19 C. A seaweed-forecast blog agrees that December to April is the best window for low sargassum, and it also mentions windy norte days. That is climatology, not a forecast, so I would check a ten-day forecast before picking the Cozumel and Isla Mujeres days.
How the trip unfolds
Arrival, Dec 23 and 24. The United nonstop leaves San Francisco at 7:04 AM and lands at 3:24 PM, which is a good arrival: you reach the beach for sunset. The return is 6:05 PM out of Cancun, landing 9:08 PM. I would take the ADO bus from the airport to the Playa del Carmen station, about USD 36 each and 1h15 per a 2026 airport guide, and walk or taxi from there. The buses do not run around the clock, so a late slip means a taxi.
Playa del Carmen as the base. I would put you at Rodina, a boutique stay in the centre with a plunge pool and an 8.7 from 312 guests, because it is walkable to the beach and the bus terminal at the lowest rated price I read. If you want the beach in a few steps, Hotel Lunata on 5th Avenue scores 9.1 from 306 reviews at USD 2,868 for the 13 nights, about USD 1,742 more. Posada Mariposa is the mid-range choice at USD 1,277 and has the biggest review base at 1,849. I have not been able to check any of them for Chase Travel benefits because that portal needs your login, so check it yourself.
Playa del Carmen is the second-largest city in Quintana Roo, and 5th Avenue is a pedestrian strip of shops and restaurants. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve will be loud and crowded; the guide I read calls those weeks very high crowds and says to book dinners first.
Chichen Itza, Dec 26. This is the day that justifies the trip culturally. Chichen Itza was a major Maya city from about 600 to 1200 AD, with several architectural styles. It is about two hours by road each way. The site opens at 8:00 AM, and a tour operator says the first two hours are calm before the buses land, with the peak from about 10 AM to 1 PM and heat above 35 C. A tour with hotel pickup, lunch and entrance runs USD 85 to 110 each, so I used the USD 97.50 midpoint. The Mexico Handbook, an expat blog, warns that 6 AM pickups are real and that tours herd you through at peak heat; a local operator, Tours Aldea, says to arrive early and visit the cenote after the ruins. I agree with both: take the early pickup and accept the van.
Tulum and a cenote, Dec 27. Tulum is a small walled Maya port on 12-metre cliffs above the sea, and one of the last Maya cities built and inhabited. It is not as big as Chichen, but the setting is better, and I would pair it with a cenote swim. Cenotes are limestone sinkholes the Maya used for water and offerings, and the Yucatan has an estimated 10,000 of them. I did not read a Tulum entry fare or a cenote price, so those are in my USD 300 activities scenario.
Cozumel, Dec 28, and Isla Mujeres, Dec 30. Cozumel is the ferry hop from Playa and a guide describes its west coast as free of sargassum all year, which makes it my pick for the snorkel day. Isla Mujeres is 13 km off the coast, and the travel guide says Playa Norte is often mirror-calm in December, so it is the fallback when a norte roughens the Playa coast. Both are single-day trips from the same hotel.
Slack days. I kept New Year's Day, January 2 and January 3 loose. Many places are quiet on January 1. I would use January 2 for the Cancun Hotel Zone only if you want a change of beach, and use January 3 to repeat whatever day you liked best.
Departure, Jan 5. Check out in the morning, take the ADO bus, and allow three hours before the 6:05 PM flight.
What it will really cost
Here is the point estimate for the two of you: flights USD 2,481, rooms USD 1,126, meals USD 1,300, ground transport USD 274, activities USD 495, and a USD 300 reserve. That adds up to USD 5,976.
Flights are USD 1,161 per person, or USD 2,321 for two, on Skyscanner for the United nonstop, plus a USD 160 allowance for a checked bag each way. That bag allowance is my assumption, because the page does not show bag fees. The cheapest fares on the page are jetBlue and Alaska one-stops at USD 790 each, USD 1,580 for two, but they take 10 to 21 hours each way. I priced the jetBlue version as an alternative at USD 5,235, about USD 741 cheaper.
The warning here is that the airline sites do not match the aggregator. Alaska's own site showed USD 2,301 per person for December 23, far above its USD 790 listing on Skyscanner. JetBlue's site showed one-way nonstops from USD 765 for the outbound only, and I did not get a return total. United's site returned an error and American's returned a challenge page, which I did not try to solve. So the flight range runs from USD 1,740 to USD 2,800, and I would not treat any of these numbers as a fare you can buy.
Rooms are the other swing. The 13-night total at Rodina is USD 1,126. The same filter for December 25 to January 5 gave USD 1,022, so the number moves with the dates. Hotel Villas San Ignacio was USD 718 and Hotel Lunata was USD 2,868. I could not read any property's own site, because Posada Mariposa's was down. That is why rooms range from USD 718 to USD 2,868.
Meals are USD 100 a day for two, built from Numbeo's Playa del Carmen prices converted at 18.3049 pesos to the dollar: inexpensive meals about MXN 200, a mid-range dinner for two about MXN 800. These are crowd-sourced averages, not menus, and I did not invent a holiday multiplier. The range is USD 845 to USD 1,950.
Ground is four ADO fares at about USD 36 plus a taxi a day, and activities are the Chichen Itza tour for two plus a USD 300 scenario for Tulum, a cenote and the Cozumel ferry. These are the least sourced lines.
On value, the low case of USD 3,798 is excellent for a beach week. The high case of USD 9,468 is not. Against Mexico City at about USD 6,040, Cancun is a beach-versus-food trade at the same price.
Where this can go wrong
The first risk is price. If the holiday room is double what I read, you are over the ceiling. The second is availability: the guide says Christmas week is limited and New Year week should be booked months ahead.
The third is weather. A norte can put three or four grey, choppy days in the middle of the trip; I kept spare days and the cenote and Cancun beach as fallbacks. The fourth is crowds and heat at Chichen Itza, which an early start fixes. I also did not confirm holiday hours on December 25 and January 1 for the ruins on an official page.
Nobody should pick this trip if they want winter scenery, deep food culture or a quiet Christmas. The beach towns are at their busiest, and on Dec 24 and Dec 31 they are loud.
I did not read cancellation terms for the priced room or the fare, so I cannot say what you would lose by changing plans.
The best alternative
The strongest competitor is the Mexico City build at about USD 6,040 for 13 nights in Roma Norte with a four-hour nonstop. It costs about USD 64 more than Cancun's point estimate, it is cooler at night, and it gives you the food, markets and museums that your preference list weights most. The earlier Mexico City plus Cancun add-on was USD 8,094 and not recommended.
I would switch to Mexico City if the Playa room comes back above about USD 2,900, or if the nonstop fare is above about USD 3,000 for two. I would stay with Cancun if both hold and you want a warm swim every day.
The cheaper jetBlue version at USD 5,235 is worth a look only if the budget gets tight, because it adds roughly five hours each way and the first night is mostly lost.
What to check next
First, check the Rodina room, or any Playa del Carmen room you like, on a property-direct page or Booking.com for December 23 to January 5, 2 adults, and read the total with taxes and the cancellation deadline. If it is above about USD 2,900, the build moves to a weak fit; if it holds, I would call it strong.
Second, search united.com for the SFO to CUN nonstop with 2 adults and read the total with bags. If it is above about USD 3,000, switch to the jetBlue build or reconsider.
Third, confirm both US visa stamps run past January 5. If either ends early, you need a Mexican visa and the trip is on hold.
Fourth, read the FMM tourist card process on the INM site, since I only saw it on a secondary page. Last, look at Chichen Itza and Tulum holiday hours and fares on official or operator pages for the days you want. That settles the order of the day trips.
The workings behind the memo
Entry And Visa Lead Time
For an Indian passport holder. US re-entry is user-attested, not verified.
| Entry route | visa-free: Indian passport holders with a valid, unexpired US visa do not need a Mexican visa for tourism, business or transit per the Mexican consular page (last updated 24 July 2026); passport and US visa must both be valid for the whole stay. An expired US visa backed only by an I-797, EAD or I-20 is not accepted. The page does not name India specifically. |
|---|---|
| Lead time | 0 days |
| Last safe application date | Not applicable or unknown |
| Feasible before departure | Yes |
| US visa dependency | The exemption depends on a valid, unexpired US visa stamp; both stamps are user-attested valid through Jan 5, not verified. |
| Transit | None: the nonstop SFO-CUN routing has no transit country; the one-stop jetBlue alternative connects in the US (JFK and FLL). |
| Fees | No visa fee for the exempt route; the FMM tourist card fee, if any, was not read on an official page. |

| Next action | Confirm the FMM tourist card process and fee on the INM site and the Indian-passport wording with the airline. |
Options And Value
Planning confidence: provisional; route timing, closures and reservations need confirmation. Booking readiness: not verified. Ratings are qualitative labels with a stated basis, not numerical scores.
Option 1: Cancun and Riviera Maya, Mexico
One base in Playa del Carmen for 13 nights with a nonstop flight of about five hours: beach on the doorstep, Chichen Itza, Tulum, Cozumel and cenotes as day trips.
Beach and ruins, not food depth; Christmas and New Year week is peak season with very high crowds; airline-direct fare not confirmed; the 13-night room price was read from a Booking.com card only.
Party cost: USD 5,976. Travelers: 2. estimate; observed 2026-10-11T15:49:00Z.
2026-12-23 to 2027-01-05
| Party cost line | USD | Basis | Calculation, assumptions and sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flights | 2,481 | partly observed | United nonstop SFO-CUN, Dec 23 7:04 AM arriving 3:24 PM, return Jan 5 6:05 PM arriving 9:08 PM, 2 travelers: USD 1,161 per person = USD 2,321 party total (Skyscanner, rendered, taxes included) plus a USD 160 allowance for one checked bag each way (bag fees not shown) = USD 2,481. Assumptions: Economy; one aggregator snapshot on Oct 11 2026; the same nonstop was not confirmed on united.com (error page); the USD 160 bag allowance is an assumption; Alaska direct showed USD 4,602 for Dec 23, so fares vary widely by source. Planning range: USD 1,740 to 2,800. Low case is the jetBlue one-stop fare (USD 1,580) plus bags; high case is the 11:00 PM United nonstop (USD 2,436) with two checked bags each way (USD 320). Cheapest versus nonstop is about USD 741 before bags. |
| Hotels | 1,126 | partly observed | 13 nights Dec 23 2026 to Jan 5 2027, 2 adults, 1 room, Rodina - Hotel Boutique, Centro: USD 1,126 stay total (USD 86.62 a night) on Booking.com, read Oct 11 2026 with a hotels-only, guest score 8+ filter. Assumptions: Booking.com card total, taxes and fees not itemized; the card was not reproduced on a property-direct page (the Posada Mariposa site was down); 8.7 score from 312 reviews; no cancellation terms read for this room. The same filter on Dec 25 to Jan 5 gave USD 1,022, so the total moves with the check-in date. Planning range: USD 718 to 2,868. Low case is Hotel Villas San Ignacio at USD 718 for 13 nights; high case is Hotel Lunata on 5th Avenue at USD 2,868 (USD 220.62 a night). Each upgrade or downgrade changes the party total one for one; rates were read once and can move before booking. |
| Meals | 1,300 | estimate | 13 days x USD 100 a day for two. Numbeo Playa del Carmen in Mexican pesos: inexpensive meal MXN 200 x 2 for breakfast and 200 x 2 for lunch = MXN 800; mid-range dinner for two MXN 800; two draft beers MXN 115 and two cappuccinos MXN 138; total about MXN 1,853 a day = USD 101 at 18.3049 MXN per USD, rounded to USD 100. Assumptions: Crowd-sourced averages, not menus; Christmas and New Year week pricing is not measured and no holiday multiplier is invented; no hotel breakfast assumed; service charge not itemized. Planning range: USD 845 to 1,950. Low case USD 65 a day (cook some breakfasts, street tacos) = USD 845; high case USD 150 a day (beach-club lunches and 5th Avenue dinners) = USD 1,950. Meal count times a daily rate is the swing. |
| Ground transport | 274 | estimate | ADO bus airport to Playa del Carmen about USD 36 per person one way: 2 travelers x 2 legs = 4 x USD 36 = USD 144, plus local taxis at about MXN 190 a trip (Numbeo taxi start MXN 90 plus about one mile at MXN 100) = about USD 10 a day x 13 days = USD 130. Assumptions: ADO fare from a 2026 airport-transport guide (another guide quotes MXN 140 to 560, USD 7 to 28); the bus stops at the Playa del Carmen station, not at the hotel; one taxi a day is an assumption; bags travel free on the ADO. Planning range: USD 150 to 450. Low case walks and uses colectivos with the cheaper ADO fare (USD 150); high case uses private transfers and taxis to Tulum (USD 450). The ADO fare varies by source, so confirm at the airport counter. |
| Activities | 495 | estimate | Chichen Itza guided day tour with hotel pickup, lunch and entrance: 2 x USD 97.50 (midpoint of the quoted USD 85 to 110) = USD 195, plus a USD 300 scenario for Tulum entry, a cenote and the Cozumel ferry (individual fares not read). Assumptions: Tour price from a tour-operator guide, not a rendered booking page; the USD 300 is a labeled spending scenario, not a quote; no Tulum, cenote or ferry fare was sourced. Planning range: USD 195 to 800. Low case is the Chichen Itza tour only (USD 195); high case adds a private guide, Cozumel snorkel or dive and two cenotes (USD 800). The unpriced fares are the main sensitivity. |
| Insurance and contingency | 300 | estimate | USD 300 contingency reserve; no insurance premium was read. Assumptions: A reserve, not an observed premium; the FMM tourist card fee, if any, was not read on an official page. Planning range: USD 150 to 600. Low case USD 150; high case USD 600 if the FMM fee and a travel-insurance policy are bought. Both are unsourced scenarios. |

Decision summary
The preferred build is 13 nights in Playa del Carmen with a United nonstop out and back. The point estimate is USD 5,976 for two: flights USD 2,481, rooms USD 1,126, meals USD 1,300, ground USD 274, activities USD 495 and a USD 300 reserve. The low case is USD 3,798 and the high case is USD 9,468, so the firm USD 7,000 ceiling holds only in the lower and middle of the range. https://www.skyscanner.com/transport/flights/sfo/cun/261223/270105/?currency=USD · https://www.booking.com/searchresults.html?checkin=2026-12-23&checkout=2027-01-05&group_adults=2&no_rooms=1&selected_currency=USD · https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/in/Playa-del-Carmen
The verdict is conditional rather than viable because the room price is low for the holiday week and was read from one booking card. A Mexico travel guide says hotel prices run 80 to 150 percent above November in Christmas week and 100 to 200 percent in New Year week, and that availability is limited, so the USD 87 a night card is the first number to re-verify. https://www.mexicotravelandleisure.com/blog/cancun-in-december/ · https://www.booking.com/searchresults.html?checkin=2026-12-23&checkout=2027-01-05&group_adults=2&no_rooms=1&selected_currency=USD

Entry and transit
The Mexican Embassy consular page, updated 24 July 2026, says holders of a valid, unexpired US visa do not need a Mexican visa for tourism, business or transit and must show the visa with the passport; both must be valid for the whole stay. An expired US visa backed only by an I-797, EAD or I-20 is not accepted. The page does not name India specifically. https://consulmex.sre.gob.mx/washington/index.php/servicios-para-extranjeros-visas
The FMM tourist card process was read on a secondary summary only; the INM page is the official place to confirm the process and any fee. US re-entry and remote-work permission are user-attested in the decision profile and not independently verified. https://www.inm.gob.mx/fmme/publico/en/solicitud.html · https://consulmex.sre.gob.mx/washington/index.php/servicios-para-extranjeros-visas

Climate and weather
A climate site gives Cancun December averages of about 27 C by day, 24 C at night and about 70 mm of rain over six days, with showers short but heavy. A Mexico travel guide gives 27 to 30 C by day and 20 to 23 C at night and calls December one of the driest months. https://weather-and-climate.com/cancun-December-averages · https://www.mexicotravelandleisure.com/blog/cancun-in-december/
The same guide says December sees two to four cold-front episodes (nortes) of two to four days, with night lows near 17 to 19 C, grey skies and choppier seas, so water activities should be placed in the sunny gaps. It cites annual-low sargassum from November to February, and a separate sargassum guide calls December to April the best window. Cozumel is described as structurally sargassum-free. https://www.mexicotravelandleisure.com/blog/cancun-in-december/ · https://www.howisthesargassum.com/blog/best-time-to-visit-cancun
Playa del Carmen has a tropical savanna climate with most rain from June to November, and hurricane season is over by December. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playa_del_Carmen

Experiences and closures
Chichen Itza was a major city in the northern Maya lowlands from about 600 to 1200 AD, and Tulum is a walled Maya port on 12-metre cliffs above the Caribbean that was one of the last cities built and inhabited by the Maya. Both justify a day each because they are not substitutes: Chichen is the monumental inland city, Tulum the coastal one. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chichen_Itza · https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulum
Chichen Itza opens at 8:00 AM and last entry is at 4:00 PM according to a tour operator; the first two hours are calm, crowds peak from 10 AM to 1 PM and midday heat passes 35 C. From Playa del Carmen it is about 185 km and two hours by car, so a pickup near 6:30 AM is realistic. Holiday opening hours for Dec 25 and Jan 1 were not confirmed on an official page. https://tourtochichenitza.com/blog/how-early-to-arrive-chichen-itza · https://thechichenitza.com/blog/chichen-itza-from-playa-del-carmen/
Cozumel is an island opposite Playa del Carmen, designated a Pueblo Magico in 2023; Isla Mujeres sits 13 km off the coast and was sacred to the Maya goddess Ixchel. Neighborhoods and lodging
Playa del Carmen is the second-largest city in Quintana Roo and the Riviera Maya hub, with Quinta Avenida as a pedestrian strip of shops and restaurants; the ADO bus from the airport drops at the downtown terminal a short walk from Fifth Avenue. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playa_del_Carmen · https://www.airportcancun.com/public-buses
On Booking.com for Dec 23 to Jan 5, 13 nights, 2 adults, hotels scoring 8+, Hotel Villas San Ignacio was USD 718, Rodina USD 1,126, Hotel Zuna 56 USD 1,151, Posada Mariposa USD 1,277, Days Inn USD 1,331 and Hotel Lunata on 5th Avenue USD 2,868. A property-direct page was not read, and the Posada Mariposa site was down. https://www.booking.com/searchresults.html?checkin=2026-12-23&checkout=2027-01-05&group_adults=2&no_rooms=1&selected_currency=USD · https://www.posadamariposa.com/

Transport and travel fatigue
Skyscanner shows United nonstops of 5h20 outbound (7:04 AM to 3:24 PM) and 6h03 return (6:05 PM to 9:08 PM) at USD 1,161 pp. The cheapest listings are one-stop jetBlue and Alaska routings of 10h29 to 21h02, which save about USD 741 for two but add roughly five hours each way. https://www.skyscanner.com/transport/flights/sfo/cun/261223/270105/?currency=USD
The ADO bus runs from airport terminals to the Playa del Carmen downtown station in about 1h15 at roughly USD 36 per person per a 2026 guide, and bags travel free; it does not run around the clock, so a late arrival would need a shuttle or taxi. https://www.airportcancun.com/public-buses · https://www.ttandmore.com/blog/ado-bus-cancun-airport-2026/

Rooms and flights are partly observed; meals, ground, activities and the reserve are estimates with ranges explained in the cost lines. https://www.skyscanner.com/transport/flights/sfo/cun/261223/270105/?currency=USD · https://www.booking.com/searchresults.html?checkin=2026-12-23&checkout=2027-01-05&group_adults=2&no_rooms=1&selected_currency=USD · https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/in/Playa-del-Carmen
Airline-direct checks disagreed with the aggregator: Alaska direct showed USD 2,301 pp for Dec 23 versus USD 790 on Skyscanner, JetBlue showed one-way nonstops from USD 765, united.com errored and aa.com returned a challenge page. That is why the flight range runs to USD 2,800 and why the flight price needs a direct check. https://www.alaskaair.com/search/results · https://www.jetblue.com/booking/flights?from=SFO&to=CUN&adults=2 · https://www.united.com/en/us/fsr/choose-flights

Risks and cancellation
Christmas week is described as very high crowds with limited availability and New Year week as book-months-ahead, so a room that shows today can disappear. Free-cancellation flags exist on some cards (for example Casarte, Balkon) but were not read for the priced Rodina room. https://www.mexicotravelandleisure.com/blog/cancun-in-december/ · https://www.booking.com/searchresults.html?checkin=2026-12-23&checkout=2027-01-05&group_adults=2&no_rooms=1&selected_currency=USD
Tour operators warn that independent travellers underestimate how early to start at Chichen Itza; and the sargassum low season is a seasonal tendency, not a guarantee. https://tourtochichenitza.com/blog/how-early-to-arrive-chichen-itza · https://www.howisthesargassum.com/blog/best-time-to-visit-cancun

Alternatives and pushback
Mexico City was priced earlier at about USD 6,040 with a four-hour nonstop and a USD 112 room; Cancun costs about the same at USD 5,976 here but swaps museums and markets for warm water and ruins. The Cancun add-on to Mexico City was previously priced at USD 8,094 and not recommended. https://www.skyscanner.com/transport/flights/sfo/cun/261223/270105/?currency=USD · https://www.booking.com/searchresults.html?checkin=2026-12-23&checkout=2027-01-05&group_adults=2&no_rooms=1&selected_currency=USD
The cheaper jetBlue build (USD 5,235) saves about USD 741 but adds roughly five hours of travel each way and lost day one; and an all-inclusive such as Paradisus La Perla was USD 10,942 for 13 nights on Booking.com, which breaks the ceiling. https://www.skyscanner.com/transport/flights/sfo/cun/261223/270105/?currency=USD · https://www.booking.com/searchresults.html?checkin=2026-12-23&checkout=2027-01-05&group_adults=2&no_rooms=1&selected_currency=USD

What Travelers Say
Says December is dry and warm with minimal sargassum but that Christmas and New Year weeks bring very high crowds, limited availability and hotel prices well above November; this complicates the USD 87 a night card.
Says the first two hours after the 8 AM opening are the calm window at Chichen Itza, with crowds peaking late morning and midday heat; confirms an early start is the key variable.
Says organized tours are the easy route but that 6 AM pickups are real and you are herded through the site in peak heat; complicates the tour-with-lunch assumption.
A local operator says to arrive early and visit the cenote after the ruins; supports starting the day before the sun is strong.
Calls December to April the best window for dry weather and low sargassum, while warning of windy norte days in January; supports the beach plan with a weather caveat.
Open Flags
- No airline-direct round-trip total matched the aggregator: Alaska direct was USD 2,301 pp, JetBlue showed outbound one-way fares, united.com errored.
- No property-direct room rate or cancellation terms were read; the Posada Mariposa site was down.
- Both US visa stamps being valid through Jan 5 is user-attested, not verified; the Mexican page does not name India specifically.
- Holiday hours for Chichen Itza and Tulum on Dec 25 and Jan 1 were not confirmed on official pages.
- Individual fares for Tulum, cenotes and the Cozumel ferry were not read.
Your Action Plan
Resolve high-priority checks before nonrefundable commitments. Verified routing, inclusive prices and eligibility can change the value assessment; changed hours or weather can change the itinerary.
- High priority: Re-check the Playa del Carmen room total on a property-direct page
Why: The USD 1,126 total for Rodina is one Booking.com card and looks low for Christmas week.
How to check: Open the hotel's own booking page or Booking.com for Dec 23 to Jan 5, 2 adults, and read the total with taxes and the cancellation deadline.
Decision impact: If the total is above about USD 2,900 the build drops to Weak fit; if it holds, the trip moves to Strong fit.
- High priority: Confirm the nonstop fare on united.com
Why: united.com errored and Alaska direct showed USD 2,301 pp for Dec 23.
How to check: Search united.com for SFO to CUN, Dec 23 to Jan 5, 2 adults, and read the total with bags.
Decision impact: If the nonstop total is above about USD 3,000 for two, switch to the jetBlue build or reconsider; if it holds, the point estimate stands.
- High priority: Confirm both US visa stamps are valid through Jan 5
Why: The Mexican visa-free entry depends on a valid, unexpired US visa.
How to check: Check the expiry date on each US visa and the passport validity against Jan 5, 2027.
Decision impact: If either stamp ends early or is expired, a Mexican visa is needed and the build moves to Not recommended until resolved.
- Medium priority: Check the FMM tourist card process on the INM site
Why: It was read on a secondary summary only.
How to check: Open the INM FMM page and read the process and any fee for arrival by air.
Decision impact: A fee changes the reserve line only; a new requirement changes the entry steps.
- Medium priority: Read Chichen Itza and Tulum holiday hours and fares on official or operator pages
Why: Dec 25 and Jan 1 hours were not confirmed and the tour price comes from a guide.
How to check: Open INAH or the operator page for the Dec 26 and Dec 27 days.
Decision impact: Closures shift the day-trip order; a higher fare raises the activities line.
Limitations And Freshness
Research expires after 30 days; price snapshots become historical after 24 hours. Always recheck current availability. Failed or incomplete checks are not confirmed facts.
- Actual researcher model identity is unverified; configured model is not runtime proof.
- Regular browser canvas used; cookie and login isolation are unknown.
- Evidence files record approximate session times only.
- Airline-direct totals were not obtained or did not match the aggregator (united.com error, aa.com challenge page not solved, Alaska direct USD 2,301 pp versus USD 790 on Skyscanner); no property-direct room rate was read; Chase Travel properties need a login and were not checked.
- Hotel totals come from Booking.com result cards with taxes and fees not itemized; Google Hotels did not display the trip dates.
- Meals, ground, activities and the reserve are estimates; the ADO fare, Chichen Itza tour price and Numbeo prices come from guides, not rendered booking pages.
- FMM tourist card details and Indian-passport wording were read on secondary sources only.
