Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Conditional one-base beach/food/nature plan, with thirteen nights and no buying clearance. Fare-only $2,004 + hotel $1,794.28 after derived FX = $3,798.28 BEFORE checked bags; add policy-derived bags $180 = $3,978.28. Add menu estimate $1,327.45 and activity references $424.04 = $5,729.77. Unsupported ground $250 and reserve $600 yield $6,579.77. No inclusive package or supported market bounds. The Joint interior room/cancellation contract and LAX entry/recheck connection must be confirmed before choosing it. The nonstop alternative’s $7,069.77 central scenario exceeds the firm $7,000 ceiling. Value is Not assessable because ground and insurance/reserve are unsupported.

Advisor memo

Puerto Vallarta: stay central, protect the return, and resolve the room contract

My recommendation

I would use Puerto Vallarta as a single-base beach-and-food trip from December 23 to January 5, not a resort-hopping circuit. My first choice is Joint Boutique Hotel's interior king junior suite, provided you are comfortable with a room without an outside view and get its holiday cancellation terms clarified. I would pair it with Alaska's morning nonstop outbound and same-day LAX return only after the 1h42 US-entry/bag-recheck connection is confirmed workable and protected, and the hotel clarifies its holiday contract in writing. If either fails, this combination is not ready to choose. The checked nonstop fallback is a $7,069.77 spending scenario, already $69.77 above your ceiling; no automatically viable under-ceiling replacement is evidenced.

The scenario-based planning case is $6,579.77 for two, including $250 of unsupported ground spending and a $600 unsupported reserve—not a priced insurance policy. The displayed subtotal BEFORE bags is two $1,002 fares plus $1,794.28 hotel after derived FX conversion: $3,798.28. Adding $180 policy-derived bags makes the fare-plus-hotel subtotal $3,978.28; neither subtotal includes the rest of the trip. Menu/activity references and derived bag costs bring the referenced subtotal to $5,729.77; $850 of unsupported scenarios then brings it to $6,579.77. The combined scenarios run from $6,193.31 to $8,310.24; this is not a guaranteed market range. The upper case breaks your firm $7,000 ceiling, so I would keep the itinerary conditional rather than describe it as an established bargain. Most importantly, ground transport contains an explicitly unsupported allowance. I cannot honestly rank total-trip value until that gap is priced. The fact that the middle scenario fits is useful, but it is not proof that every version fits.

For an Indian passport holder with a valid, unexpired US visa throughout the visit, the Mexican consulate in San Francisco explicitly says a separate Mexican tourist visa is not needed. Both travelers' valid US stamps and US re-entry are user-attested, not inspected. The consulate also cautions that carriers may apply additional passport-validity rules; confirm the actual Indian-passport requirement with the airline. This exemption has no advance Mexican visa application; if either document does not qualify, the consular fallback has an unpublished processing time and needs an appointment. I would change the recommendation if a satisfactory central room or baggage-inclusive itinerary pushes the verified total above $7,000, or if the entry exemption does not apply.

Why this trip fits the two of you

Puerto Vallarta serves beach, food, culture and accessible nature better than winter scenery. You get the sea and a walkable town rather than a beach resort with nothing beyond its gate. The attraction for me is the combination: a morning spent among orchid collections, an evening on Basilio Badillo, a whale boat on another day, and enough unstructured afternoons to return to a beach you actually like. I would not sell this as a snow alternative with equivalent scenery. It is a deliberate choice of warm coast over alpine winter.

Seasonal averages are favorable but more specific than the tourism board's broad winter description. WeatherSpark's monthly averages show December highs/lows of 82°F/64°F and January 81°F/62°F, with average water temperatures of 79°F and 77°F respectively. Rainfall averages are 0.6 inches in December and 1.1 inches in January. Those are regional historical summaries, not forecasts for your dates. The shortest daylight period is about 10h53 near the solstice. I would do the hill and garden early and leave beach sunsets as optional endings, not the reason to delay a road return.

Your earlier December 19 window is usable under the user-attested remote-work permission, but I do not see enough upside to choose it here. The Booking interior-suite reference increases from $1,766 to $2,264 before 21% taxes: $498 more before tax, or $602.58 after tax for four nights, on that same provider. Food and transport also grow, and the early SFO nonstop-outbound headline was higher. Cheap two-stop overnight leads exist, but their return and fare terms were not completed. The longer window is an option for more time, not a demonstrated saving.

How the trip unfolds

Arrive directly into the town you will actually use

On December 23 I would take Alaska AS754, leaving SFO at 7:04 AM and arriving at PVR at 12:49 PM. Its displayed elapsed time is 3h45. That is an early start, but it avoids a connection and gives you daylight for immigration and the transfer. I would use an authorized airport provider and go straight to Joint at the Insurgentes bridge. Allow 30–60 minutes for the road transfer as a holiday planning buffer, not a promised drive time. Check-in is 3 PM, so luggage storage needs confirmation if you arrive sooner.

Joint is not my choice because it has a card benefit. Public Chase pages did not establish that it, Posada de Roger or Rivera del Rio is in The Edit or the logged-in travel portal. All remain unverified; no credit or breakfast benefit is deducted. Joint wins on the location and the available room cost. Its own site places it beside the Cuale, with coworking and a gym. The inspected interior junior suite has no promised view, and I would ask about ventilation, air conditioning, noise and natural light before accepting thirteen nights there. A kitchenette belongs to the more expensive studio, not automatically to this room.

Julie Schwietert Collazo's older AFAR neighborhood piece emphasizes cobblestones, cafés and beach proximity. That supports the walkable-base idea, but its age means I would not borrow its safety assurance or hours as current facts. The historical report's Comfort Inn near the airport would make arrival easier but evenings more transport-dependent. For thirteen nights, I would prioritize the place you leave the hotel to enjoy, not the last few minutes of an airport transfer.

Christmas stays deliberately simple

December 24 is Cuale Island, the public market and the parish/plaza area. The island divides the town and its cultural center explains why this is more than a souvenir stop. The archaeology museum is described as free by the tourism board, but its holiday opening is not confirmed. If it is shut, the outdoor island and plaza remain the plan; I would not invent a museum reservation.

December 25 is Los Muertos Beach and its illuminated sail-shaped pier, reached on foot from the base. The beach is the city's social shoreline: families, vendors, boats and restaurant terraces, not a quiet private cove. Plan a walk and sand time first; swimming depends on local warnings and conditions. No lounger, beach-club minimum spend or Christmas meal is included as a confirmed offer. The botanical garden is closed on Christmas Day, so it is not a fallback that day.

Meagan Drillinger, writing in Mexico News Daily in November 2025, makes the useful distinction between local religious customs and the commercial waterfront celebrations. Her account also notes crowded New Year's waterfronts and holiday dining demand. It makes me cautious about promising a public spectacle on Christmas Eve. The Guadalupe processions she describes run December 1–12, before either authorized departure. I would not move the trip earlier simply to imply you will see them.

Spend on the bay and the garden, not a daily tour

December 26 is the whale excursion, with a marina walk afterward rather than a second major outing. Ecotours' December 26, 8:30 AM schedule showed a 12 PM return and two adult tickets at $131.59 each including taxes and fees. I have also allowed the $5-per-person port fee stated on the operator page, pending confirmation that the ticket display has not already included it. The earlier one-person screen showed a standby/minimum-four-participant notice; the later two-ticket screen did not show it. That is not proof the departure will operate. Ask whether the minimum is met and what happens if weather cancels the trip.

Aga Moe's review, reproduced on the operator's page with a relative date, praises the guide and the distance kept from whales. I read that as an argument for the educational small-boat experience, not for getting closer to wildlife. It is also provider-hosted review evidence, not an independent safety certification. Sightings remain uncertain. If rough seas or health restrictions make the boat unsuitable, switch to the marina and a town food day rather than chase a replacement boat at any price.

I would use December 27 for a slow Centro/plaza circuit and December 28 for Vallarta Botanical Gardens. The garden's detailed official page is more reliable than a generic statement that it opens seven days in winter: it explicitly excludes December 25 and January 1. General admission is MXN 300 per adult. The El Tuito bus reference is MXN 50 per person each way, approximately 45 minutes, leaving every half hour. The total admission-plus-bus reference for two is MXN 800. That is much less than the garden's MXN 1,200-per-person shuttle package, but it buys less convenience and is subject to the actual holiday service.

At the garden, I would split time between the Orchid & Native Plants Conservatory and a short forest trail. The collections preserve western Mexican biodiversity, including orchids, oaks and magnolias; the second visit lets you see the surrounding ecosystem rather than just glasshouses. Allow about five hours on site as a planning choice. River swimming is explicitly at your own risk and is not necessary to make the day worthwhile. Rain makes the trail the first thing to drop, not the whole visit.

Leave room for repetition and a considered New Year

The remainder is deliberately paced around Gringo Gulch, the Cuale cultural center, a food tour, Los Muertos, the lookout and galleries. This is thirteen nights with return visits and recovery time, not thirteen distinct attraction days. The repeated beach/island walks are optional rests that preserve flexibility; skip them rather than invent a paid outing just to fill a box. On December 30 I would take the Original Downtown food tour if its calendar confirms service. The public starting price is $59 each, not an exact-date total. It earns its time by introducing regional dishes and their context, then helps you decide what to eat independently. I have not removed a meal from the food basket: the savings from substituting tastings for lunch are upside, not an assumption.

For New Year's Eve I would keep the daytime close to home and choose a waterfront stroll you can leave easily. The municipal festival article captured is explicitly about 2025–26, so its lineup and free activities are not a 2026–27 promise. A reserved dinner is a separate check; Makal's regular menu is not a New Year's menu. Its normal closure is Monday, so I place the optional regular-menu dinner on Tuesday, December 29, rather than Monday, January 4.

January 1 is a recovery day on the beach and Cuale Island, not the closed garden. January 2 can include the Saturday market if this season's holiday operation is confirmed. January 3 is the Cerro de la Cruz climb in morning light, with a Malecón walk afterward; skip the steep steps if knees, heat or rain argue against it. January 4 is galleries and Basilio Badillo with packing time. Return January 5 through LAX: 3:02 PM from PVR, 1h42 connection, SFO at 7:35 PM, displayed 6h33. Immigration and bag recheck at the first US airport make that connection a real risk to verify, not a carefree shortcut.

What it will really cost

The baseline flight working is two times $1,002 plus four $45 checked-bag charges = $2,184. The search was for two adults; the airline itself labels its fares per person. Each traveler has one first checked bag each direction in the model. This is direct displayed airfare plus a policy-derived bag total, not a completed baggage-inclusive checkout. The two-nonstop alternative is two times $1,247 plus $180 = $2,674, a $490 comfort premium. Main allows seat selection and changes with fare difference; the selected pricing path was nonrefundable. I would not trade that $490 away if the LAX return cannot be protected, but I would prefer to spend it on the trip if the connection is workable.

Joint's direct summary is MXN 27,072.50 room subtotal + MXN 4,331.60 IVA + MXN 1,353.69 ISH = MXN 32,757.79, or $1,794.28 using the captured informational rate of MXN 18.25682830 per USD. The thirteen nightly rates add to the subtotal: seven at MXN 1,912.50, four at MXN 2,677.50, two at MXN 1,487.50. No invented holiday multiplier is needed. Booking's comparable interior room is $1,766 + 21% = $2,136.86, with different prepayment/cancellation wording. These are different channels and possibly different inventory, not proof one will honor the other's price.

Food is $1,327.45 in the central spending scenario: a MXN 21,074 menu-proxy basket plus a voluntary 15% service/tip assumption, converted at the same rate. It includes 26 breakfasts with MXN 148 ranchero eggs and MXN 54 coffee, 26 lunches using MXN 198 chicken enchiladas and MXN 54 lemonade, 22 dinner portions at a MXN 238 fish-taco lunch-menu proxy, four Makal mains at MXN 545, 26 additional drinks at MXN 54 and two shared desserts at MXN 225. Those dinner proxies are not twenty-two verified dinner menus. Menu tax treatment and actual holiday bills are not confirmed; the voluntary tip assumption is not a guarantee of inclusive tax/service charges. The basket has twelve full destination days, December 24–January 4, plus the two travel partials combined. It covers 24 full-day breakfasts plus two January 5 breakfasts, 24 lunches plus two arrival lunches, and 24 dinners plus two arrival dinners, with four Makal portions replacing four dinner portions. Origin breakfast and meals after reaching home are outside this destination basket. Price any airport or inflight extras you want separately; none is promised free. Hotel breakfast and tour tastings are not used to cut the basket.

The other baseline lines are $250 unsupported ground scenario, $424.04 partly observed activities and $600 unsupported planning reserve, insurance unquoted. Activities are the whale tickets plus the unresolved port-fee treatment, one public starting-price food tour and two garden admissions. Ground transport includes the captured MXN 624 airport-arrival sedan lead, a reciprocal airport-return proxy, the garden bus and a city-bus reference, plus unquoted airport positioning, taxi and service uncertainty. It is an unsupported budget scenario, not a transport quote. The $600 reserve is a rounded planning policy around 10% of pre-reserve spending, not an insurance premium or evidence of coverage.

The low/high scenarios change named quantities, channels and exchange-rate assumptions, not future price predictions. The central case leaves $420.23 below your ceiling. The $490 nonstop premium exceeds that $420.23 margin by $69.77, so the nonstop variant is already over the ceiling in the central scenario. The best same-location cost alternative is keeping the interior room and connecting return; the best experience alternative is a river-view studio or Rivera del Rio, but the latter's $4,810.11 direct lodging total alone makes this trip exceed the ceiling even before the rest of the normal basket. I cannot call the central case superior experience per dollar while the ground allowance remains unsupported.

Where this can go wrong

The largest avoidable mistake is paying for the wrong room expectation. Thirteen nights in an interior suite are reasonable only if you actually want it. Joint's early-rate terms suggest limited cancellation, while its general page says holiday reservations can incur the full stay. Booking says cancellation is free before December 22 for the core reference and charges the full reservation inside one day. These statements need channel-specific written clarification. The cheaper direct amount is not automatically the best risk-adjusted amount.

The second mistake is treating a pretty beach as a safe swimming beach or a seasonal whale trip as guaranteed. Follow local flags and operator restrictions. FCDO's current country advice warns about crime affecting major tourist destinations, including Puerto Vallarta, and unpredictable sea conditions. Its regional warning areas are not a city-wide safety verdict; nor does a tourist-zone address remove risk. Use reputable transport, avoid isolated night walks, keep valuables restrained and do not extend the trip into remote inland drives just to fill a day.

The third is overbuying holiday experiences. A gala dinner, beach club, extra boat day and nonstop premium can jointly erase the budget margin. I would dislike this trip if I wanted silence every evening, a guaranteed sea view, snow, or a different major attraction every day. Someone who likes returning to a familiar café and beach will get more from this base than someone who needs a busy touring circuit.

The best alternative

The strongest realistic alternative is the same single-base trip with both Alaska flights nonstop. It keeps the town and food strengths, reduces the return airport complexity and costs $490 more in the flight model. Its central total is $7,069.77, already $69.77 above the ceiling before unresolved changes. I would switch only if the LAX connection cannot be protected and verified savings elsewhere bring the entire basket below $7,000. I would not stretch the budget or use a self-transfer to make it appear to work.

Rivera del Rio is the better-looking boutique retreat on the captured sources, with pools and distinctive rooms, but its inspected Mariposa total is $4,810.11 including taxes/fees and a 50% deposit. The Booking alternative was even higher after taxes and could assign the room at check-in. It is useful pushback against the interior-suite compromise, not an under-$7,000 recommendation. Posada de Roger remains a good independently owned lead, but the core Booking search had no availability and its direct booking page did not expose a usable search engine. The advertised $54 special was for 2024 and excluded holidays; it is not a current fallback price.

What to check next

  • Ask Joint to resolve the exact room and cancellation contract. Use the public Cloudbeds rate and hotel contact page; ask whether SUK(24) is the room, whether it has outside windows, and which holiday penalty overrides the rate wording. A satisfying answer supports the plan; an unsuitable room or full-stay penalty changes the lodging choice.
  • Recheck Alaska with two adults and one checked bag each direction. Compare AS754 plus the 6h33 return with AS754/AS268 nonstop. Confirm the first-US-airport immigration/bag-recheck connection. A verified inclusive total and protected connection keep the lower-cost option; a difficult connection makes the $490 premium worth considering only within the ceiling.
  • Price the entire ground basket and an insurance policy you actually need. Include home-airport travel, PVR return, the marina excursion and any holiday taxis. The current $250 is a scenario, not proof. Replace it and decide whether the $600 reserve is enough; do not count operator trip insurance as full medical coverage.
  • Check each passport/US-visa exemption privately against the San Francisco consulate page. No passport details need to be shared with this research. If the exemption fails, use MiConsulado for the fallback and obtain an actual processing estimate before treating the dates as feasible.
  • Confirm the whale departure, food-tour calendar and holiday meals. Ask Ecotours about its participant minimum and port fee. Use the garden's detailed closure page. Check the restaurants' own holiday menus rather than assuming the regular menu will apply.
  • Check Chase Travel yourself only after the best stay is clear. Public evidence did not prove a listing for these hotels. Compare the same room and cancellation terms without subtracting hypothetical card benefits.

The workings behind the memo

Entry And Visa Lead Time

For an Indian passport holder. US re-entry is user-attested, not verified.

Entry routevisa-free: For an Indian passport holder, the San Francisco Mexican consulate explicitly waives a separate Mexican visa for tourism/business/transit with a valid, unexpired US visa and passport throughout the Mexican stay, regardless of nationality. Legal US status forms alone do not qualify if the stamp is expired. Travelers’ documents are user-attested, not inspected; admission is discretionary. The Mexican consulate says passport validity throughout the stay is sufficient for Mexico, but warns the airline may apply a US six-month validity rule. Confirm actual carrier/US-admission passport-validity requirements for each Indian passport before committing; do not assume every nationality has the same six-month rule and do not inspect/send passport identifiers.
Lead time0 days
Last safe application dateNot applicable or unknown
Feasible before departureUnknown
US visa dependencyRequires actual US visa stamp and passport valid throughout the visit. Both travelers’ visas through return are user-attested October 10, not verified. No advance Mexican application under exemption, not automatic admission.
TransitOnly US/Mexico on selected route; LAX is first US immigration/bag-recheck point. No third-country transit. US re-entry is user-attested; carry own applicable status documents and confirm with employer/immigration counsel.
FeesExemption: $0 separate Mexican visa application per person. Do not infer an additional FMM/entry fee; verify airfare tax treatment. Fallback SF visitor visa: $56 per person/$112 party, as published, nonrefundable even if refused. Processing/appointment lead time unverified.
Where to applyNo application under valid-US-visa exemption. If it fails, use the Consulate General of Mexico in San Francisco visitor-visa instructions and https://citas.sre.gob.mx MiConsulado appointments. Current appointment street address was not captured; user should confirm it on the official consulate site rather than rely on an inferred address.
Application steps
  1. 1. Check exemption first: present a passport and unexpired US visa both valid throughout Mexico stay; I-797/EAD alone is not enough.
  2. 2. If exempt, no Mexican visa application. Carry valid documents, return itinerary, lodging and trip/solvency evidence; follow official arrival instructions.
  3. 3. If not exempt, complete SF consulate application, prepare its photo/passport/US-residence/solvency checklist, then book one MiConsulado visa appointment per person.
  4. 4. Attend official appointment with originals/copies and pay 56 USD per person as published; ask actualprocessingtime. Do not assume issuance or entry.
Documents to prepare
  • Valid original passport throughout stay; US visa stamp valid throughout visit for exemption. Do not send identifiers to research.
  • Return/onward itinerary, hotel details and available solvency evidence for admission; these are not an application under exemption.
  • Fallback: complete SF consulate visitor-visa application linked at https://consulmex.sre.gob.mx/sanfrancisco/index.php/servicios-para-extranjeros.
  • Fallback: one recent color passport photo within 6 months,no glasses,1.5 × 1.75 in or2 × 2 in; passport original and copies of information/visa/stamp pages.
  • Fallback: US address proof, valid legal-residency original/copy,3 months pay proof average1,360.43 USD plus employer-year letter OR3 months statements average4,081.05 USD, as published; recheckcurrentthreshold.
  • Fallback: payment56 USD per person and appointmentconfirmation; fees nonrefundable even if denied.
Next actionCheck each actual passport/US visa privately against the official SF consulate page. Qualifying exemption has no advance application; leadTimeDays 0, lastSafeApplyDate null/not applicable and feasibleByDepart true are conditional on documents. If not exempt: appointment and processing are unpublished here, so fallback lead/time/date/feasibility are unknown; ask consulate before committing.

Options And Value

Planning confidence: provisional; route timing, closures and reservations need confirmation. Booking readiness: not verified. Ratings are qualitative labels with a stated basis, not numerical scores.

Option 1: Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Value rating: Not assessable

Ground transport and reserve are unsupported spending scenarios. Experience fit can be argued, but these numbers cannot establish comparative experience per dollar.

Compared with: Versus the same hotel with both flights nonstop, the fare/policy case is $490 lower, while the return adds 2h28 and immigration/recheck risk. Unverified OAK/SJC leads do not prove savings.

What changes this rating: Verify the complete ground/insurance basket, satisfactory room/cancellation terms and current inclusive airfare; then reassess qualitative value against the sourced alternative using supported low/high costs.

Price confidence: Partly observed

Direct per-person airfare, full hotel MXN total and dated whale ticket display are observed snapshots. Bag/FX arithmetic is derived, meals use menu proxies, food tour is a from-price, and ground/reserve are unsupported. Not a bookable package.

Preferred itinerary concept for research only, conditional on written Joint room/refundability clarification AND a confirmed protected LAX US-entry/bag-recheck connection. Neither is currently proven. If they fail, no evidenced under-ceiling fallback is ready; the nonstop central scenario exceeds the ceiling. Ground and reserve remain unsupported.

Early morning outbound; LAX US-entry and bag-recheck connection needs protection/feasibility confirmation. Thirteen-night interior room, no sea view, holiday noise/crowding, cancellation ambiguity and unsupported ground/insurance cost.

Party cost: USD 6,579.77. Travelers: 2. estimate; observed 2026-10-13T03:25:30Z.

Planning range: USD 2,184 to 2,188. Same direct fare snapshot with official $45 first-bag policy. High adds $4 for Google’s $92-per-person trip baggage reference versus $90 policy case. This is a fee-disagreement scenario, not a bound on future fare changes; any fresh fare must be requoted.

You may cancel with no penalty at least 24 hours before midnight of your day of arrival". The general policy separately says: "Full Charge - Full Stay - Holiday periods and group reservations." No verified calendar deadline or controlling clause is derived from this contradiction; treat refund exposure as potentially the full stay until written confirmation. Booking comparable is a different contract, not a resolution of the direct terms.

Planning range: USD 1,778.21 to 2,136.86. Low converts the same MXN 32,757.79 at XE’s historical 30-day high 18.4218, not a predicted rate. High uses Booking comparable $1,766 × 1.21 = $2,136.86. Inventory/terms and real card/FX rates may differ.

Option 2: Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Value rating: Not assessable

Ground transport and reserve are unsupported spending scenarios. Experience fit can be argued, but these numbers cannot establish comparative experience per dollar.

Compared with: Versus the same hotel/experiences with the 6h33 LAX return, $490 more avoids the connection and reduces flight elapsed time to 4h05. Current central case exceeds the ceiling; no quantified value advantage.

Both-nonstop comfort alternative avoids LAX connection but its $7,069.77 spending scenario exceeds the firm ceiling. Only reconsider after supported savings bring the full trip below $7,000, with room/cancellation and documents verified.

Current central case over budget; interior room still lacks an outside-view promise and has cancellation ambiguity. Holiday crowds/noise, marine conditions and no winter scenery.

Party cost: USD 7,069.77. Travelers: 2. estimate; observed 2026-10-13T03:25:30Z.

Flights2,674partly observedSearch for two adults; prices labeled round-trip per person. 2 × $1247 + 2 travelers × 2 directions × $45 first checked bag = $2674. Direct search says taxes/fees included; baggage is policy-derived, not final checkout.

Assumptions: Exact December 23–January 5 core dates, Main economy, one first checked bag per traveler per direction, up to 50 lb/62 linear inches. No card/status waiver or premium seat. Nonrefundable pricing path; fare difference can apply to changes. Carry-on reference is from Google Main detail. Displayed availability is not purchase availability.

Planning range: USD 2,674 to 2,678. Same direct fare snapshot with official $45 first-bag policy. High adds $4 for Google’s $92-per-person trip baggage reference versus $90 policy case. This is a fee-disagreement scenario, not a bound on future fare changes; any fresh fare must be requoted.

Hotels1,794.28partly observed13 nights, 1 room, 2 adults: 7 × MXN 1,912.50 + 4 × 2,677.50 + 2 × 1,487.50 = 27,072.50 subtotal. IVA 4,331.60 + ISH 1,353.69 = 32,757.79 inclusive. Divide by captured 18.25682830 MXN/USD = $1,794.28 rounded. Quantity 1 full stay.

Assumptions: Direct inclusive MXN total is observed; USD conversion is derived. Interior junior suite SUK(24), not the larger river studio. No meal inclusion. Specific rate and general holiday cancellation policy conflict; do not presume refundability. Booking may show a different inventory/contract. Direct Early Booking Discount text says: "Reservation must be booked 30 days or more before arrival date. On the day prio rto arrival, the cost of your first night will be charged to your credit card. This is non-refundable.

Decision summary

One central base and a same-day return make the trip coherent; keep it conditional, not a priced bargain.

Value is Not assessable because ground and insurance/reserve are unsupported. https://www.alaskaair.com/search/results · https://hotels.cloudbeds.com/en/reservation/3G0ipg/?currency=mxn&checkin=2026-12-23&checkout=2027-01-05

The experience serves beach, food and walkable nature rather than snowy scenery. Interior-room comfort and holiday noise matter as much as the nominal hotel saving. Selected flight durations are under the user-attested 24-hour cap. Both nonstop flights add $490, raising the central case to $7,069.77 above the user-attested firm $7,000 ceiling. https://visitpuertovallarta.com/blog/la-zona-romantica-de-puerto-vallarta · https://weatherspark.com/y/3402/Average-Weather-in-Puerto-Vallarta-Mexico-Year-Round · https://www.alaskaair.com/search/results

Entry and transit

Official US-visa exemption replaces the old unresolved Mexican-entry lead, conditional on each traveler’s actual documents.

The Mexican consulate in San Francisco explicitly exempts visitors of any nationality carrying a valid, unexpired US visa and passport throughout their Mexican stay for tourism, business or transit. I-797, EAD and legal-status documents do not replace an expired stamp for this exemption. Both travelers’ valid US visas are user-attested, not inspected. No advance Mexican visa application is needed if each qualifies. Otherwise the consular fee shown is $56 per person; appointment/processing time is not published in the capture, so fallback feasibility is unknown. https://consulmex.sre.gob.mx/sanfrancisco/index.php/servicios-para-extranjeros

The selected route uses only the United States and Mexico, with no third-country transit. The return’s first US arrival is LAX: immigration and checked-bag recheck affect the 1h42 connection and need airline confirmation. US re-entry and remote-work permission are user-attested October 10, not guaranteed admission or legal verification. The core window has no remote-work dependency; a longer stay should still confirm Mexico’s applicable activity conditions. https://www.cbp.gov/travel/international-visitors/applying-admission-united-states · https://consulmex.sre.gob.mx/sanfrancisco/index.php/servicios-para-extranjeros · https://www.alaskaair.com/search/results

Climate and weather

Winter is a favorable seasonal coast choice, not a sunshine or sea-state guarantee.

WeatherSpark’s monthly table gives December highs/lows of 82°F/64°F and January 81°F/62°F, average rainfall of 0.6/1.1 inches and water temperatures of 79°F/77°F. The tourism board’s mid-80s winter description is broader; the monthly table is the detailed planning reference. Near the solstice there are about 10h53 of daylight. This is historical regional climatology, not a forecast of December 2026 sunshine, rain or sea state. https://weatherspark.com/y/3402/Average-Weather-in-Puerto-Vallarta-Mexico-Year-Round · https://visitpuertovallarta.com/about-puerto-vallarta/weather

Bay beaches and boat exposure differ from the shaded Horcones forest and river. Bring sturdy shoes and repellent for the garden and shorten trails if wet. River swimming is at your own risk and not necessary to the itinerary. FCDO warns that sea conditions can be unpredictable and beaches unpatrolled: a seasonally dry period does not establish safe swimming. https://www.vbgardens.org/hours-location-and-transportations/ · https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/mexico/safety-and-security

Experiences and closures

Protect Christmas and New Year from closed gardens and assumed event schedules.

The garden’s detailed official page specifies 9 AM–6 PM in winter but explicitly closes December 25 and January 1. December 28 avoids both closures. Collections and a short forest trail give botanical/conservation context. The kitchen opens 9 AM–5 PM, but its menu prices were not captured; the meal allowance is a proxy, not a Hacienda de Oro restaurant quote. https://www.vbgardens.org/hours-location-and-transportations/ · https://www.vbgardens.org/tickets/

The whale calendar showed December 26, 8:30 AM–noon and two adult tickets at $131.59 each including displayed taxes/fees. The operator also states a $5 port fee per person, whose inclusion remains unclear. An initial standby/minimum-four notice later disappeared, which does not prove operation. The proposed December 30 food tour is a public from $59 reference, not completed dated availability. Free outdoor walks remain possible when museums/galleries/market hours are unknown. The captured municipal festival article is for 2025–26, not the coming New Year. https://www.ecotoursvallarta.com/tours/humpback-whale-watching/ · https://book.peek.com/s/f5df7cf6-fea7-4f66-badd-1cfd2d8618d9/ODM6 · https://vallartafoodtours.com/food-tours/centro · https://visitpuertovallarta.com/blog/9-things-you-can-do-in-puerto-vallarta-for-free · https://visitpuertovallarta.com/blog/christmas-in-puerto-vallarta-beach-tradition-and-magic-under-the-stars

Neighborhoods and lodging

Central Joint is the cost-led available base, not a view or Chase-benefit promise.

Joint’s Cuale/Insurgentes position supports walking and access to coworking/gym facilities. The direct interior junior suite subtotal is MXN 27,072.50 and full total MXN 32,757.79 for thirteen nights/two adults. Booking’s comparable interior room is $1,766 excluding 21% taxes, or $2,136.86 derived. The channels may have different inventory and policies. Ask about SUK(24), outside windows, air conditioning and noise before choosing thirteen nights; the river-view studio’s kitchenette is not promised in the interior room. https://hotels.cloudbeds.com/en/reservation/3G0ipg/?currency=mxn&checkin=2026-12-23&checkout=2027-01-05 · https://jointpv.com/ · https://www.booking.com/hotel/mx/joint-coworking.html?checkin=2026-12-23&checkout=2027-01-05&group_adults=2&no_rooms=1&selected_currency=USD

Rivera del Rio’s captured Booking rating is 9.3/10 from 240 reviews; the direct named Mariposa room totals $4,810.11 including taxes for thirteen nights/two guests, with a 50% deposit. Stairs/access and late arrival matter. With $2,184 flights, lodging already brings the subtotal to $6,994.11 before food or other expenses. Posada de Roger is a family-owned central lead but has no full-stay Booking availability and no usable direct form. Its advertised $54 promotion was for 2024 and excluded holidays. Chase’s public overview does not establish any of these hotel listings; no benefits are deducted. https://www.booking.com/hotel/mx/rivera-del-rio.html?checkin=2026-12-23&checkout=2027-01-05&group_adults=2&no_rooms=1&selected_currency=USD · https://direct-book.com/properties/riveradelriodirect?currency=USD&checkInDate=2026-12-23&checkOutDate=2027-01-05 · https://hotelposadaderoger.com/the-hotel/ · https://www.booking.com/hotel/mx/posada-de-roger.html?checkin=2026-12-23&checkout=2027-01-05&group_adults=2&no_rooms=1&selected_currency=USD · https://www.chase.com/travel/the-edit

Transport and travel fatigue

Short outbound and one protected-ticket return are preferable to headline fares with overnight waits.

AS754 leaves SFO December 23 at 7:04 AM and arrives PVR 12:49 PM, displayed 3h45. The selected January 5 return departs PVR 3:02 PM, connects LAX for 1h42 and reaches SFO 7:35 PM, displayed 6h33. Main is $1,002 per adult round trip before bags. The nonstop AS268 return is 6:11–8:16 PM, 4h05, at $1,247 per adult round trip. Google’s $1,826 headline had a 28h56 return and was rejected. A cheaper overnight return arriving January 6 and a separate-ticket United combination were not treated as protected savings. https://www.alaskaair.com/search/results · https://www.google.com/travel/flights/search

Fresh Skyscanner attempts preceded Google for all SFO/OAK/SJC routes and both windows. Nonselected outbound screens are leads, not completed round-trip totals. SJC’s $1,716 headline returns overnight with 14h18 elapsed; its $1,870 same-day return takes 9h57 and lacks direct inclusive verification. OAK’s $1,717 Southwest lead via SAN has no completed return. These origins are not proven more expensive: SFO wins here on directly checked routing/fatigue, not a global cheapest-fare claim. Home-airport positioning and taxi costs remain unquoted. https://www.alaskaair.com/search/results · https://www.google.com/travel/flights/search · https://www.aeropuertosgap.com.mx/en/puerto-vallarta-3/servicios/transportacion-terrestre.html · https://www.vbgardens.org/hours-location-and-transportations/

Budget and value

Show the workings and the unsupported pieces before judging the $7,000 ceiling.

Preferred $6,579.77 = $2,184 flights + $1,794.28 hotel + $1,327.45 meals + $250 ground + $424.04 activities + $600 reserve. Cost-line scenario endpoints sum to $6,193.31–$8,310.24; they are quantity/channel/FX stress cases, not availability bounds. The informational exchange rate is MXN 18.25682830/USD, not a guaranteed card rate. XE’s past-30-day 16.9707–18.4218 range supplies historical FX sensitivity, not a prediction. Unsupported ground/reserve prevents a comparative value rating. https://www.alaskaair.com/search/results · https://hotels.cloudbeds.com/en/reservation/3G0ipg/?currency=mxn&checkin=2026-12-23&checkout=2027-01-05 · https://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/convert/?From=USD&To=MXN · https://www.makalgastronomia.com/en/menu

The MXN 21,074 food-proxy basket adds a voluntary 15% tip assumption, then converts to $1,327.45. Official 2026 Fredys menus show ranchero eggs 148/coffee 54, enchiladas 198/lemonade 54 and fish tacos 238; Makal references are a 545 main and 225 dessert. Evening/holiday menus and menu tax treatment are not fully established; no hotel breakfast or food-tour meal substitution is assumed. The central case leaves $420.23 below $7,000. Both nonstop flights raise it to $7,069.77, not a budget-compliant recommendation. https://fredystucan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Breakfast-ENG-Fredys-Tucan-2026.pdf · https://fredystucan.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/LUNCH-ING-Menu-Fredys-Tucan-2026-.pdf · https://www.makalgastronomia.com/en/menu · https://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/convert/?From=USD&To=MXN · https://www.chase.com/travel/the-edit

Risks and cancellation

The direct hotel cancellation conflict and first-US-airport connection are decision gates.

Direct Early Booking Discount text says: "Reservation must be booked 30 days or more before arrival date. On the day prio rto arrival, the cost of your first night will be charged to your credit card. This is non-refundable. Booking comparable is a different contract, not a resolution of the direct terms. https://hotels.cloudbeds.com/en/reservation/3G0ipg/?currency=mxn&checkin=2026-12-23&checkout=2027-01-05 · https://www.booking.com/hotel/mx/joint-coworking.html?checkin=2026-12-23&checkout=2027-01-05&group_adults=2&no_rooms=1&selected_currency=USD

FCDO country advice discusses crime in major tourist destinations including Puerto Vallarta and unpredictable seas. Its regional list is not a blanket city ban or assurance. The US State advisory browser check hit security verification; no current US advisory level is claimed. Avoid isolated night walks, unplanned remote inland drives and unsafe swimming. Operator health/mobility restrictions apply, medical insurance is unpriced, and whale cancellation terms are 100% at 36 hours, 50% at 24 hours and none day-of; confirm weather cancellation treatment. https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/mexico/safety-and-security · https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/mexico/regional-risks · https://www.ecotoursvallarta.com/tours/humpback-whale-watching/

Alternatives and pushback

The fair alternative is a safer return or a better room, not pretending all three are cheap.

Both nonstop flights cost $490 more in the sourced fare/policy case, but the $7,069.77 central total exceeds the firm ceiling. They become a candidate only if verified savings elsewhere restore the complete total under $7,000, not by increasing the budget. Rivera offers a more distinctive pool/room retreat but its $4,810.11 lodging total makes the full trip too costly. Joint’s larger studio is $2,993 before 21% taxes on Booking or MXN 45,900 direct before confirmed taxes; it is a comfort option needing a new all-in comparison, not the selected interior room. https://www.alaskaair.com/search/results · https://hotels.cloudbeds.com/en/reservation/3G0ipg/?currency=mxn&checkin=2026-12-23&checkout=2027-01-05 · https://www.booking.com/hotel/mx/joint-coworking.html?checkin=2026-12-23&checkout=2027-01-05&group_adults=2&no_rooms=1&selected_currency=USD · https://direct-book.com/properties/riveradelriodirect?currency=USD&checkInDate=2026-12-23&checkOutDate=2027-01-05

The December 19 window adds four nights: the same Booking interior room increases by $602.58 after displayed taxes, before more meals and remote-work exposure. Its airfare leads are incomplete, so no saving is claimed. Meagan’s 2025 holiday account, Julie’s older walkable-neighborhood perspective and John Hecht’s 2024 discussion of quieter coves explain the tradeoff: this town-based itinerary suits repeat cafés/beach walks better than silence, a guaranteed view or snowy scenery. The strongest sourced alternative is the same base with a less complicated return, not an unpriced different country. https://www.booking.com/hotel/mx/joint-coworking.html?checkin=2026-12-19&checkout=2027-01-05&group_adults=2&no_rooms=1&selected_currency=USD · https://www.booking.com/hotel/mx/joint-coworking.html?checkin=2026-12-23&checkout=2027-01-05&group_adults=2&no_rooms=1&selected_currency=USD · https://mexiconewsdaily.com/travel/how-to-celebrate-the-holidays-in-puerto-vallarta/ · https://www.afar.com/places/zona-romantica-puerto-vallarta · https://www.lonelyplanet.com/articles/top-things-to-do-in-puerto-vallarta

Provisional Itinerary

Itinerary follows Option 1: Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

  1. Day 1 · 2026-12-23 · SFO → Puerto Vallarta

Take AS754 at7:04AM and arrive PVR12:49PM after 3h45 nonstop. Use authorized transport, store luggage if available until3PM check-in, eat locally and rest. This early-start arrival day has no mandatory sightseeing.

Travel-only arrival: early flight, immigration, ground transfer and settling into the thirteen-night base.

Lodging: Joint Interior King JR Suite SUK(24), one of thirteen nights December 23–January 5. Interior/no outside-view promise; cancellation clarification required.

Transfer: Authorized PVR arrival-zone sedan reference MXN624; confirm exact Joint address/two adults. Allow30–60min road planning buffer plus immigration; luggage storage not guaranteed.

Weather alternative: Delay: follow airline instructions; no replacement purchase authorized, added accommodation unpriced and reserve not guaranteed sufficient.

  2. Day 2 · 2026-12-24 · Cuale Island and Centro

Morning on Cuale Island and its public market gives easy orientation from the hotel. Cross to the parish and civic square after lunch, then keep the evening near the base. Respect Christmas worship; no procession or interior access promised.

Cuale River Island and public market

Why it matters: The divided river creates an island with a craft market and cultural center between the town’s main districts.

Why this visit: Provides a shaded, culturally useful walk near the hotel rather than another transit day. Shopping is optional, not an admission requirement.

Time: 1–2 hours; pacing allowance.. Walk from Insurgentes bridge in daylight; wet/swinging bridges and individual market opening need local checks. Holiday shop openings not confirmed.

Cost basis: Outdoor stroll free per tourism guide; purchases not included, no forced spending.

Plaza de Armas and Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish

Why it matters: Central civic square beside the parish whose foundations date to 1903; the crown-shaped tower is a city icon.

Why this visit: Gives the town’s public and religious context, not just a photo stop. Observe worship respectfully; skip interior during services.

Time: 1–1.5 hours including stops; suggested.. Walk across Cuale toward Centro. Exterior access is the plan; Christmas mass times/interior visitor hours not verified, never promise a festive procession after Dec 12.

Cost basis: Free square/parish visit per tourism guide; donations optional and not budgeted.

Lodging: Joint Interior King JR Suite SUK(24), one of thirteen nights December 23–January 5. Interior/no outside-view promise; cancellation clarification required.

Transfer: Central public walks generally10–30min between stops as planning allowance. Any needed taxi is unquoted, not free. No car rental/self-transfer.

Weather alternative: Rain/heat/closures: confirmed café and hotel rest with sheltered island/public walks when safe; museum/galleries only if current opening confirmed, no false guaranteed indoor fallback.

  3. Day 3 · 2026-12-25 · Los Muertos and Olas Altas

Christmas is for sand time and a shore walk, lunch nearby and the illuminated pier if open/crowds allow. Swimming is conditional on local warnings. The garden is closed, and holiday restaurant menus need a separate check.

    Los Muertos Beach

Why it matters: Traditional social beach of Puerto Vallarta with vendors, music and the city’s waterfront life.

Why this visit: It earns repeated rest time because it is walkable from the selected base; skip swimming if local warnings or surf argue against it.

Time: 2–3 hours as a planning choice, with shade and water breaks.. Walk 15–25 minutes from Joint via central streets as a planning buffer. Public access; holiday crowding and flags need local checks. No reserved lounger or club assumed.

Cost basis: Public beach visit is free per tourism guide; food is in meals. Loungers, clubs and paid watersports unpriced and not included.

Los Muertos Pier and Olas Altas

Why it matters: Sail-shaped pier renovated in 2013 and an embarkation point for southern-bay boats; adjacent street is part of the traditional tourism district.

Why this visit: Useful sunset orientation and waterfront people-watching without a paid cruise. Skip if crowded or access is restricted.

Time: 45–75 minutes; duration is suggested, not a scheduled event.. Reach on foot from beach; remain on open public walkways. Lighting and boat departures do not prove holiday boat availability. No unscheduled water taxi included.

Cost basis: Free public pier/walk per official free guide; no boat fare or restaurant minimum spend assumed.

Lodging: Joint Interior King JR Suite SUK(24), one of thirteen nights December 23–January 5. Interior/no outside-view promise; cancellation clarification required.

Transfer: Central public walks generally10–30min between stops as planning allowance. Any needed taxi is unquoted, not free. No car rental/self-transfer.

Weather alternative: Rain/heat/closures: confirmed café and hotel rest with sheltered island/public walks when safe; museum/galleries only if current opening confirmed, no false guaranteed indoor fallback.

  4. Day 4 · 2026-12-26 · Banderas Bay and Marina Vallarta

Use the confirmed marina meeting point for the8:30AM whale outing and preliminary talk. Return about noon for lunch and a gentle marina walk, then go back to Joint. If minimum participants or seas prevent operation, substitute a town day.

    Ecotours humpback-whale research excursion

Why it matters: Seasonal bay expedition with biologist interpretation and hydrophone/research context rather than guaranteed close wildlife encounters.

Why this visit: Distinctive nature day in the operator’s Dec 8–Mar23 season; skip if seasickness/health restrictions apply or departure is not confirmed.

Time: Dec 26 8:30AM–12:00PM with preliminary talk, as displayed in operator calendar.. Public calendar set Dec 26 and2adulttickets; operator initially displayed minimum4 standby. Later screen omits warning but is not operating confirmation. Marina departure point needs confirmation; no personal form submitted. Health/weight/mobility restrictions and36h cancellation window per operator.

Cost basis: 2*131.59 USD dated ticket reference=263.18 including display taxes/fees; add10 USD port fee provisionally per operator page pending inclusion check. No completed checkout/boat guarantee.

    Marina Vallarta promenade

Why it matters: Residential marina walk with lighthouse, yachts and food frontage; distinct from Centro’s civic waterfront.

Why this visit: A low-intensity second visit after the boat, not an extra cross-bay excursion.

Time: 1.5 hours and lunch, suggested.. Stay near the confirmed boat drop-off; marina return taxi legs unquoted. No seasonal market promised.

Cost basis: Promenade free per official guide; transport remains unsupported ground scenario, lunch in meals.

Lodging: Joint Interior King JR Suite SUK(24), one of thirteen nights December 23–January 5. Interior/no outside-view promise; cancellation clarification required.

Transfer: Joint–Marina meeting point and return: suggested30–60min each way; actual taxi fares unquoted in unsupported ground scenario.

Weather alternative: Rough seas/minimum failure: marina walk and Cuale/food day; do not purchase replacement boat.

  5. Day 5 · 2026-12-27 · Centro and Malecón

Start with the square/parish exterior, lunch and a hotel break. Walk the sculpture promenade in softer light. Optional Makal regular-menu dinner is one of the two menu-proxy occasions, subject to holiday service; no set-menu purchase assumed.

Malecón sculpture promenade and Los Arcos amphitheater

Why it matters: Nearly one-kilometer promenade of public sculpture, art and gathering space, with the waterfront amphitheater.

Why this visit: A repeatable low-cost city evening and a good fallback for an unconfirmed museum. Do not confuse the amphitheater with Los Arcos Marine Park.

Time: 1.5–2 hours in early evening; planning time.. Walk waterfront before peak crowds; events and performer hours not verified. Public promenade not a reserved New Year event. Stay on lit, active routes.

Cost basis: Promenade free; no show ticket or New Year meal included. Drinks/food follow menu scenarios.

Lodging: Joint Interior King JR Suite SUK(24), one of thirteen nights December 23–January 5. Interior/no outside-view promise; cancellation clarification required.

Transfer: Central public walks generally10–30min between stops as planning allowance. Any needed taxi is unquoted, not free. No car rental/self-transfer.

Weather alternative: Rain/heat/closures: confirmed café and hotel rest with sheltered island/public walks when safe; museum/galleries only if current opening confirmed, no false guaranteed indoor fallback.

  6. Day 6 · 2026-12-28 · Vallarta Botanical Gardens

Check the El Tuito bus, travel in the morning and spend the first half on orchid/native collections. Pause for lunch, then choose a short safe forest trail only if conditions suit. Return early on confirmed transport; both visits share one admission.

Orchid & Native Plants Conservatory, Vallarta Botanical Gardens

Why it matters: Conservation collection with roughly 200 orchid species and native-tree collections, connecting western Mexico biodiversity to botanical research.

Why this visit: Best nature/culture complement to beach days; slow observation rather than a long rugged hike.

Time: 2–2.5 hours collections, planning estimate.. Dec 28: official winter 9AM–6PM, closed Dec 25/Jan 1. El Tuito bus ~45min every30min, MXN50 each way per person; verify holiday service. Bring shoes/repellent/water.

Cost basis: MXN300 admission per adult, 600 party (~32.86 USD), covers both garden visits same day. Four bus fares200 MXN counted only under ground, not twice.

Horcones forest trails within Vallarta Botanical Gardens

Why this visit: Shows the ecosystem behind the plants; choose a short path, not a compulsory jungle trek. Skip when wet or tiring.

Time: 1.5–2 hours plus lunch; suggested, not fixed trail duration.. Same Dec 28 admission; ask staff which short trail is safe that day. Restaurant kitchen9AM–5PM; exact menu cost not captured. River swimming at your own risk, omitted from essential plan.

  7. Day 7 · 2026-12-29 · Gringo Gulch and Cuale culture

Walk Gringo Gulch’s public architectural streets in daylight, without entering private homes. After lunch try the Cuale cultural-center/museum only if open; otherwise use island/cafés. Optional Tuesday Makal dinner is the second menu-proxy occasion.

Gringo Gulch streets and historic architecture

Why it matters: Hillside residential district tied to Elizabeth Taylor/Richard Burton and preservation of Mexican-town architecture.

Why this visit: Adds architectural texture to the Cuale walk; optional if hills or privacy concerns make it less pleasant.

Time: 1–1.5 hours leisurely public-street walk.. Daylight, sturdy shoes and steep-step awareness. View public streets/exteriors only; no access to homes or hotel interiors implied.

Cost basis: Free public-street walk; no house-tour entry assumed.

Cuale Cultural Center and archaeology-museum option

Why it matters: Cultural center supports arts, workshops and archaeological interpretation of regional/Mesoamerican history.

Why this visit: An indoor option when open, complementing town walks; if closed, use the island and cafés without pretending to complete the museum.

Time: 1–1.5 hours if open.. At eastern end of Cuale Island; exact Dec/Jan holiday hours not published in captured source. Ask official tourism information locally; exterior remains fallback.

Cost basis: Tourism guide says archaeology museum free; workshops/events may charge and are excluded.

Lodging: Joint Interior King JR Suite SUK(24), one of thirteen nights December 23–January 5. Interior/no outside-view promise; cancellation clarification required.

Transfer: Central public walks generally10–30min between stops as planning allowance. Any needed taxi is unquoted, not free. No car rental/self-transfer.

Weather alternative: Rain/heat/closures: confirmed café and hotel rest with sheltered island/public walks when safe; museum/galleries only if current opening confirmed, no false guaranteed indoor fallback.

  8. Day 8 · 2026-12-30 · Centro food and Zona Romántica

If a dated operator slot is confirmed, take the downtown food/history walk. Rest afterward, then independently visit Basilio Badillo cafés/galleries when open. The public from-price is not an exact holiday quote; no meal savings assumed.

Original Downtown Tour, Vallarta Food Tours

Why it matters: Guided old-town food and history route introducing eight regional dishes including birria, tacos, seafood and mole.

Why this visit: Turns early impressions into informed independent meals; skip or choose diet-compatible replacement if tastings do not fit.

Time: 3 hours per public operator listing.. ProposedDec30; exact calendar not completed, ask operator for available slot and dietary accommodation. Meet point unknown until confirmation; no bookings. Public cancellation wording24h refund, confirm selected terms.

Cost basis: Public from59 USD per adult,118 party reference; not exact-date finaltaxinclusive quote. Meal basket not reduced for tour tastings.

    Basilio Badillo cafés and galleries

Why it matters: Named restaurant/gallery street forming a principal axis of Zona Romántica.

Why this visit: Makes the single base useful each evening; independent exploration after food tour rather than adding taxi travel.

Time: 1.5–2 hours, with rests; suggested.. Walk from Joint. Gallery/shop seasonal hours unknown; confirm individually and use public street as fallback. Restaurant reservations separate.

Cost basis: Public street free; no art purchase. Fredys breakfast/lunch and Makal dinner are meal proxies, not included admissions.

Transfer: Central public walks generally10–30min between stops as planning allowance. Any needed taxi is unquoted, not free. No car rental/self-transfer.

  9. Day 9 · 2026-12-31 · Cuale and waterfront New Year

Stay close to Joint for island time and an easy lunch, then rest. Choose an early evening waterfront stroll with an easy way home. The 2025 article is not a promised 2026 event/lineup; any gala or holiday restaurant bill needs separate pricing.

  10. Day 10 · 2027-01-01 · Los Muertos and Cuale

Start late after New Year, use beach walking rather than unsafe swimming and return to island shade/café rest. Do not schedule the closed garden or promise museum opening. Recovery is the point, not mandatory touring.

Cuale River Island and public market

Why it matters: The divided river creates an island with a craft market and cultural center between the town’s main districts.

Why this visit: Provides a shaded, culturally useful walk near the hotel rather than another transit day. Shopping is optional, not an admission requirement.

  11. Day 11 · 2027-01-02 · Saturday market and Los Muertos

Try the Saturday market only if current seasonal holiday operation is confirmed. If closed, use the park and Basilio Badillo before a familiar beach afternoon. Shopping is optional; do not automatically buy a second boat tour.

Olas Altas Saturday market, conditional opening

Why it matters: Seasonal local-producer market in Parque Lázaro Cárdenas; tourism guide describes made/baked/grown local goods.

Why this visit: Food/craft contrast to a repeated beach day, with no need to buy a tour. If holiday season opening is not confirmed, choose park/street walk.

Time: 1–1.5 hours on Jan 2 morning if operating.. Official older pages saySaturdayNov-April but exact2026–27Jan2holiday opening unverified. Ask current organizer locally; do not rely on this as a reserved experience.

Cost basis: No admission price in captured market source; outdoor park stroll free. Purchases optional, food counted by meal scenario not market quote.

    Los Muertos Beach

Why it matters: Traditional social beach of Puerto Vallarta with vendors, music and the city’s waterfront life.

Weather alternative: Rain/heat/closures: confirmed café and hotel rest with sheltered island/public walks when safe; museum/galleries only if current opening confirmed, no false guaranteed indoor fallback.

  12. Day 12 · 2027-01-03 · Cerro de la Cruz and Malecón

Climb Cerro de la Cruz in morning daylight with shoes, water and rests. After lunch/rest, return to the Malecón to see the city from sea level. Rain or knee pain changes the morning to island/café time, not a forced steep walk.

    Cerro de la Cruz lookout

Why it matters: Hill platform with panoramic city/bay view, reached by steep streets/steps above Centro.

Why this visit: Adds a small, earned viewpoint without a long inland transfer; skip for knee issues, rain or heat.

Time: 1.5–2 hours return with water/rests; suggested.. Jan 3 morning daylight; official guide routes from Malecón viaAbasolo near Rotonda del Mar. No reliable holiday gated-hours evidence; confirm local access. Sturdy shoes, do not descend isolated route after dark.

Cost basis: Free per official tourism guide; no guide, cable transport or equipment rental assumed.

Malecón sculpture promenade and Los Arcos amphitheater

Weather alternative: Rain/heat/closures: confirmed café and hotel rest with sheltered island/public walks when safe; museum/galleries only if current opening confirmed, no false guaranteed indoor fallback.

  13. Day 13 · 2027-01-04 · Galleries and Cuale

Revisit favorite galleries/cafés if open, then the shaded island. Leave time to pack, verify the flight and arrange airport return. Makal normally closes Mondays; choose a confirmed alternative meal rather than assuming service.

Open Flags

  • Joint exact interior-room comfort and contradictory holiday cancellation clauses.
  • Final two-adult baggage-inclusive airfare and protected 1h42 LAX US-entry/recheck feasibility.
  • Unsupported ground/medical-insurance/reserve spending, including home positioning and marina taxis.
  • Meal dinner proxies, tax treatment and holiday menus unconfirmed.
  • Whale participant minimum and whether port fee is already included.
  • December 30 food tour, January 2 market, museums/galleries and2026–27 festivities unconfirmed.
  • Other-origin/window return/direct totals incomplete; no global cheapest claim.
  • Actual researcher model identity unverified; independent approval not yet obtained.
  • Historical round2 consistency subtotal finding remains disputed: before-bags3798.28 and after-bags3978.28 now explicitly separated; reviewer reject retained, no approval inferred.

  • Ground transport and trip/medical insurance are not priced; value ranking remains Not assessable.
  • Final clarification requires matching independent re-review, including full memo coverage.

Your Action Plan

Resolve high-priority checks before nonrefundable commitments. Verified routing, inclusive prices and eligibility can change the value assessment; changed hours or weather can change the itinerary.

  1. High priority: Exact Joint room and holiday cancellation contract

Why: Thirteen nights in an interior room and contradictory holiday penalties can reverse the stay choice.

How to check: Compare Cloudbeds specific rate with general holiday policy and ask Joint’s public contact about SUK(24), outside windows, AC and noise. User contact only; no agent message. Sources: https://hotels.cloudbeds.com/en/reservation/3G0ipg/?currency=mxn&checkin=2026-12-23&checkout=2027-01-05&guests=2 ; https://jointpv.com/

Decision impact: Satisfactory written answers support the room. Unacceptable comfort/full-stay penalty changes lodging; reprice without increasing the firm ceiling.

  2. High priority: Alaska inclusive party fare and LAX connection

Why: Policy-derived baggage is not checkout, and US-entry/recheck in1h42 may make the low fare fragile.

How to check: On Alaska’s public form select two adults December 23–January 5 Main, one checked bag each way; compare AS754 plus same-day LAX return with AS754/AS268 nonstop. Read protected-connection and cancellation conditions. Sources: https://www.alaskaair.com/search/results?O=SFO&D=PVR&OD=2026-12-23&DD=2027-01-05&A=2&RT=true&locale=en-us

Decision impact: Feasible protected connection keeps the plan. If not, use a repriced nonstop case only when actual complete spending fits $7,000. Current nonstop central case is over budget.

  3. High priority: Whole ground basket and medical/trip insurance

Why: Ground250 and reserve600 are unsupported scenarios, not under-budget proof.

How to check: Use AeroTPV exact-address/two-person form and obtain hotel–airport return, home-airport positioning and marina taxi quotes. Confirm bus/card cost locally; user compares an activity-appropriate insurance policy. Sources: https://aerotpv.com/

Decision impact: Replace scenarios with supported costs. If inclusive total exceeds $7,000, do not recommend committing. Value stays Not assessable until priced.

  4. High priority: Each passport and US-visa exemption

Why: Attested valid stamps are not document inspection or guaranteed admission.

How to check: Privately compare each traveler with the Mexican SF consulate’s valid-US-visa exemption; passport and stamp valid through entire stay. If not exempt, user uses citas.sre.gob.mx and asks actual processing lead time. Sources: https://consulmex.sre.gob.mx/sanfrancisco/index.php/servicios-para-extranjeros ; https://citas.sre.gob.mx The Mexican consulate says passport validity throughout the stay is sufficient for Mexico, but warns the airline may apply a US six-month validity rule. Confirm actual carrier/US-admission passport-validity requirements for each Indian passport before committing; do not assume every nationality has the same six-month rule and do not inspect/send passport identifiers.

Decision impact: Qualifying exemption needs no advance Mexican application. Failure creates unknown appointment/processing feasibility and a $56-per-person fee, blocking commitment until resolved.

  5. Medium priority: Whale minimum, port fee and dated operation

Why: Initial standby/minimum-four notice later vanished; no operation guarantee. Port fee may already be included.

How to check: On Ecotours/Peek select December 26 8:30AM/two adults; user asks minimum met, meeting point, $131.59 taxes/fees, extra $5 port fee and weather refund. Sources: https://www.ecotoursvallarta.com/tours/humpback-whale-watching/ ; https://book.peek.com/s/f5df7cf6-fea7-4f66-badd-1cfd2d8618d9/ODM6

Decision impact: Confirmed departure fits. Otherwise move to another flex day or land plan. Reduce $10 only if port fee inclusion is actually confirmed.

  6. Medium priority: Garden, market, food-tour and restaurant holiday schedules

Why: Regular hours and historical festival articles do not confirm2026–27 operation.

How to check: Garden detailed page excludes December 25/January 1. Check food-tour December 30 calendar, current market January 2 and Fredys/Makal holiday menus on their public pages/with operators. Sources: https://www.vbgardens.org/hours-location-and-transportations/ ; https://vallartafoodtours.com/food-tours/centro ; https://fredystucan.com/en/menu/ ; https://www.makalgastronomia.com/en/menu

Decision impact: Closures use named town fallbacks. Reprice actual meals/tours rather than assume regular menus or future festivities.

  7. Low priority: Chase Travel room/channel comparison

Why: Public overview does not prove property listing; benefits must not justify worse lodging.

How to check: User alone checks logged-in Chase Travel for the same room/dates/cancellation after reviewing public The Edit overview. No agent sign-in or account inspection. Sources: https://www.chase.com/travel/the-edit

Decision impact: A real comparable offer may change channel, not itinerary based on hypothetical credit. Do not subtract unverified benefits.

Limitations And Freshness

Research expires after 30 days; price snapshots become historical after 24 hours. Always recheck current availability. Failed or incomplete checks are not confirmed facts.

  • Actual researcher model identity is unverified; configured model is not runtime proof.
  • Regular browser canvas used; cookie and login isolation are unknown.
  • Direct fare and hotel prices are snapshots; bags and USD conversion are derived. The whole trip is not an observed package offer.
  • Ground and reserve values are unsupported budget scenarios. Comparative value is Not assessable; the high scenario exceeds the firm $7,000 ceiling.
  • All three origins and two windows were observed after fresh Skyscanner-first attempts, but nonselected return/direct searches are incomplete. SFO is not proven cheapest.
  • Joint’s specific rate and general holiday cancellation clauses conflict. No fully cancellable claim is made.
  • The 2025 holiday articles are not a 2026–27 event calendar. Food-tour, market, museum and gallery holiday operation remains unverified.
  • Mexican exemption depends on valid actual documents. US re-entry and remote-work permission are user-attested, not independently verified.
  • PDF input is unsupported by the current model; official menu PDFs were saved, text-extracted locally and rendered pages inspected as images.
